Mark Thornton had a dream, one day own and operate a restaurant. After years of working in restaurants, learning all he could about how they run, he had the chance to make his dream come true.
Mark learned that a restaurant in the downtown area had come up for lease. A quaint little place on the corner of Alcaniz and Intendencia, one block north of Seville square. So, armed with his own recipes and a little help from a couple of financial backers, his dream was born. The Happy Pig Café opened in February of 2009. As Mark likes to say, it’s a BBQ place with taste.
With a smoker installed in the back, all the meat is slow smoked with a special rub, brisket, the pork, turkey, and of course chicken. All side dishes are home- made such as the potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, and a house favorite; the broccoli slaw. One of the specialty’s of the house is the brunswick stew, a southern tradition.
We offer a full bar so that you may enjoy your favorite cocktail or try one of the "Brews” offered by the Pensacola Brewery, as well as your favorite bottled beer. Outside seating is available out front to watch the downtown go by, or visit our cute courtyard out back, for small gatherings which is available for rent.
